Harris has announced the deployment of one of the largest Harris NEXIO XS server platform installations in Germany at ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, the German commercial television conglomerate.
The installation, which features13 NEXIO NX3600HDX server systems providing more than 60 channels, forms part of ProSiebenSat.1’s news production and playout facility in Berlin. The Berlin facility also houses the first German installation of the Harris Platinum router, which manages the distribution of signals at the facility.
ProSiebenSat.1 Group has two sites in Germany: one in Munich and the other in Berlin, where the stations Sat.1 and N24 are based. The Berlin facility houses the studios for live recording of television programmes and production and is where news and TV programming is produced for the complete broadcast chain. The sale, for the company’s Berlin facility, was made by Teracue AG, Harris Corporation’s local distributor in Germany.
“The installation of the NEXIO XS server platform has been a major driver in the move toward a tapeless production workflow at our Berlin facility,” said Jiri Srb, head of infrastructure and systems of ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion, a subsidiary of ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG. “The system supports multiple formats, enabling us to mix different compression formats and provide back-to-back DV/MPEG playout capabilities. In addition, the NEXIO XS provides a reliable and flexible solution to perform daily file transfers between our two sites in Berlin and Munich, while easily integrating into our existing infrastructure.”
“The NEXIO XS server platform is designed to seamlessly interface with the Platinum routers, which form the backbone of ProSiebenSat.1’s production facility,” said Dave Dougall, vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa for the Harris Broadcast Communications Division. “The high reliability and robust design of the NEXIO XS server platform are crucial requirements for a mission-critical facility like ProSiebenSat.1.”
