Presteigne chart remote production in Asia

Presteigne Charter is in discussions with a Thai broadcaster about the remote production of live soccer in the country, and says it wants to import the model to the UK. “We are talking about how they could have a single control room in Bangkok and just have cameras and audio equipment at the venues,” said Alan Bright, director of engineering at Presteigne Charter. “All camera feeds, including replays, would be sent to the central hub over fibre. The only people on-site would be camera ops, audio technicians and a technical manger,” he explained. “It’s a remarkably small presence on site and the beauty is that you can do two or three matches in a single day from a central control room. It’s a concept we are thinking of introducing to British broadcasters. Provided there is good fibre connectivity from the venues there is no reason this model can’t work anywhere, today.” The dry hire and solutions provider has established a strong presence in the region. Last November it supplied all technical kit and production support for the host broadcast of the indoor football tournament FIFA FUTSAL World Cup 2012, which took place in Thailand. Bright says demand for remote productions are growing. Earlier in 2012 the company networked a 30 EVS server environment for TOU (The Olympic unit), a collaboration of Nine Network Australia and Foxtel Australia at the London Olympic Park. Nine produced free-to-air broadcasts and subscription TV platform Foxtel aired eight round-the-clock channels from the IBC for the duration of the Olympics. The server systems were linked to both Avid and FCP and playout facilities. Presteigne also helped Canada’s CTV remote control material from several Olympic venues back to Canada.
