Cinesite Studios has installed Pixit Media’s PixStor storage platform at its sites in Montreal and London.

The installation is designed to transform the visual effects and animation facility’s workflow efficiency across two continents.

“Pixit Media shone through the competition as they offered top-tier performance at an affordable price,” said Christian Perschky, head of systems technology at Cinesite.

“We’re now able to cache data between London and Montreal, giving us the opportunity to access everything in one place, which saves even more on overheads as we no longer have to split up jobs.”

Utilising Dell hardware, the London and Montreal sites each have three PixStor servers and two DR (disaster recovery) systems. The London workspace also has an archive system server, as well as a real-time 4K review and editing system, which utilises Mellanox networking technology.

“The complete PixStor server systems for general workflow installed in both studios supports uncompressed playback at over 4K to review workstations and can easily scale up higher if required,” added Perschky.

“Pixit Media also helped with the build, advised throughout and provided service assistance going above and beyond the levels of support we usually see.”

Barry Evans, technical director at Pixit Media, said, “Cinesite provide a high level of VFX and animation services across the two studios.”

“It was essential that the installation of PixStor not only reduced cost of hardware, support and system expansion but also increased production render performance.”
