Parliament in HD at Stortinget

With the addition of more cameras, a new switcher, router and intercom system, Megahertz Broadcast Systems and Video 4 has completed the second phase of an upgrade in the television facilities at Stortinget, the Norwegian parliamentary buildings in Oslo. All proceedings are now available in HD, and automated using software control from LSB. The first phase was installed in 2010, based on Shotoku robotics with Sony cameras. As well as meeting the usual parliamentary requirements of consistent coverage of all speakers in the main chamber and hearing rooms with the robotics under automated control as far as possible, there was an additional layer of challenge at Stortinget, in that there were stringent regulations about minimising the impact of the installation on the historic building. The second phase, installed in the 2012 parliamentary recess, adds further cameras and Shotoku heads, and a Snell Kahuna 360 switcher and Sirius router. There are four control panels for the Kahuna, allowing the switcher to be used for multiple applications. Overall configuration and control of the complete operational system uses the VSM (cirtual studio manager) platform from LSB. This provides a simple graphics user interface for every element in the workflow, including the Chyron graphics, Studer audio mixer and Miranda multiviewers as well as the robotics. “We are really proud that Stortinget returned to us to expand the facilities,” said Lars Petter Ommundsen, CEO of Oslo-based distributor and installer Video 4. “They identified a need for exra cameras in the main chamber and a more efficient way of operating. Together, Video 4 and the Megahertz team were able to design the additional facilities and implement them within the tight timeframe of the parliamentary recess.”
