Dublin-based Observe Outside Broadcast Facilities, one of Europe’s leading mobile production service companies, has chosen Eyeheight legalising colour correctors to assist in televising the popular BBC television show ‘Nolan Live’ from Belfast.
Produced in Belfast, ‘Nolan Live’ is a live 60-minute weekly interactive current affairs TV show fronted by Stephen Nolan. A mix of hard news and viewer participation, the programme has led to its presenter winning the Royal Television Society’s Presenter of the Year award two years in a row.
Observe’s HD1 vehicle was called in to keep the programme on air while the vehicle normally deployed was away covering a sports event. HD1 is wired to handle 25 cameras and has fibre as well as triax infrastructure for each source.
“Eyeheight CC-2 colour corrector/legalisers housed in an MX-9 chassis controlled from an FP-9 panel were used to ensure consistent display on two large plasma panels on the ‘Nolan Live’ studio set,” explained Observe broadcast engineer, Devin Murphy. “We were very happy indeed both with the Eyeheight equipment and the service provided by the company.”
The CC-2 provides individual control of R,G and B gains, lifts and master gamma. An integral legaliser enables the user to make full use of colour correction without risk of the resulting signals exceeding normal broadcast standards such as EBU R103-2000. A safe area generator on the indicate output can be used to display safe-action as well as safe-title cursors for all standard aspect ratios. Highly effective luma overshoot and undershoot suppression, EDH re-insertion and six user memories are also incorporated.
