NRK routes Eurovision with Nevion

Mediateket AS, the Norwegian systems integrator dealing with video distribution for the Eurovision Song Contest, has chosen a router from Nevion’s VikinX Sublime range to provide NRK with a routing solution for the show.

Initially needing a new router for studios 5 and 6 in Oslo to help with the upgrading of its news and sports production to HD, NRK chose Mediateket AS to deliver a solution through a public tender. With Eurovision approaching, they also needed a further two routers for the routing in the main control room in time for the contest, and chose Mediateket to provide a solution again who in turn turned to Nevion.

“We chose Nevion to help us provide a routing solution to NRK for both the studio and Eurovision Song Contest projects,” said Terje Togstad, systems builder, Mediateket AS. “We’ve already worked with Nevion in the past and their routers have been used elsewhere within NRK, so it was logical for us to use them again. The VikinX Sublime was the best router for the ESC project and it integrated smoothly with NRK’s control systems meaning they were able to re-use our existing control panels.”

Nevion provided two independent Nevion routers, the VikinX Sublime 64×64 – which covers signal formats from analogue video/audio to HDTV – for the ESC project, as well as the VikinX Modular 256×256 router for studios 5 and 6. The timeline for the integration of the routers was critical and Mediateket AS and Nevion were able to deliver them in time for the contest this weekend.
