Nordic cloud collaboration

The five national broadcasters in the Nordic region – NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark, YLE in Finland, RUV in Iceland and SVT in Sweden – have come together to create a cloud content exchange service. The Nordif 3 consortium selected technology from Tedial and systems integration by Mediateket. The system is based on Tedial’s Media Amigo cloud exchange platform. For Nordif 3 this will be hosted by NRK in its Oslo headquarters. It allows each of the consortium members to upload, review and share material in a fully file-based environment. As well as the cloud exchange system the service also uses Tedial Tarsys asset management and hierarchical storage software. Each broadcaster has a common local gateway to upload, search and download material. Web access provides convenient browse, edit and review capabilities. The generic toolset in the Tarsys asset management module means that the reporting element usually reserved for rights management can be used to monitor shared content. In practice, each broadcasters simply subscribes to specific content types or relevant media groups. Once video and non-video files become available they can be automatically delivered to the individual users who have subscribed to them. “Initially the consortium thought that a media exchange solution did not exist and the project would require new technology,” said Jørgen Scheel of Mediateket. “However, the proven Tedial workflow met all of the member requirements, and was selected by the broadcasters.” Rafael Dubois of Tedial added “Last year we installed a cloud-based service for Forta, Spain’s federation of regional channels. Both Forta and Nordif 3 provide an excellent reference for other national and regional broadcasters looking to adopt a file-based solution that enables them to share content.”
