Radio Television Serbia (RTS) has added a digital archive from Software Generation Limited (SGL) to work alongside the broadcaster’s news production system from Grass Valley. The new SGL FlashNet archive replaces the existing Grass Valley NewsBrowse.SGL worked closely with RTS to ensure tight integration between Flashnet and the news production system, achieving a significant improvement in speed and workflow. In particular, all content is now in the file-based domain, making research faster and more productive.Prior to the installation of the new SGL and Grass Valley system, RTS’s archive was based on videotapes, with metadata only accessible to librarians in the archive department, meaning that journalists were faced with a transactional research process. Now the who archive appears to RTS journalists alongside current content within the Grass Valley asset management system, Aurora Browse.Users can access content within the archive for news broadcasts directly from the Grass Valley applications which are seamlessly linked to SGL Flashnet. “Now we have an archive solution that makes our lives much easier,” said Nenad Cukalovic, executive director for television technology at RTS.“Journalists can browse all assets regardless of their location, and can request material from the archive to be restored with a few mouse clicks.
