New MD sets out stall at Megahertz

Independent systems integrator Megahertz has a new managing director, former Philips and Omneon man (not to mention Omnibus Systems co-founder) Greg Hoskin. Hoskin brings with him 30 years' experience of broadcasting engineering technology. "I started out in the truck-building business," Hoskin said, "and Megahertz are one of the fastest growing truck-building businesses in this industry at the moment, so it's like coming full circle for me," writes Andy Stout.

Independent systems integrator Megahertz has a new managing director, former Philips and Omneon man (not to mention Omnibus Systems co-founder) Greg Hoskin. Hoskin brings with him 30 years’ experience of broadcasting engineering technology. “I started out in the truck-building business,” Hoskin said, “and Megahertz are one of the fastest growing truck-building businesses in this industry at the moment, so it’s like coming full circle for me,” writes Andy Stout.

Hoskin continued, “The team here have secured some great HD vehicle contracts recently which are taking Megahertz from being a respected medium-scale truck building company into a much larger arena, and I’ll be making sure that development continues. I’ll also be focusing on building Megahertz’s business in the fixed studio installation business, where it has had great success in the past.”

Like his counterparts at Megahertz’s Canadian parent company AZCAR, Hoskin sees the growth areas in systems integration as being firmly in the IT and file-based markets. “Traditionally, systems integrators put together well-thought-out systems composed of discrete hardware and made sure everything was wired together correctly. The modern systems integrator still needs those skills, but also needs to be able to apply them to the digital, file-based world in which today’s modern broadcasters are working. There’s a great deal of confusion out there about how best to make the switch to server-based workflows and how to make the systems work together, even after they’re successfully installed. We have a lot of experience of making broadcast systems work, and there’s a market out there for that knowledge and experience like never before. That’s another of the areas I intend to focus on in the coming months.”

Stephen Pumple, CEO of Megahertz’s Canadian parent company AZCAR Technologies, commented: “Greg’s background and over 30 years of experience in marketing, business development, project and financial management in the broadcast and media space is just what we were looking for to fill this important position. He has the requisite leadership skills, is experienced in the geographic markets in which MHz is active and understands the business environments in which Megahertz operates. Greg is the key person to move the company forward.”

Gavin Schutz, AZCAR’s president, added: “Greg has been very much involved in the evolution of automation and file server technologies over the past 20 years, and file based systems will become the backbone of media. I look forward to working closely with Greg to meet the goals we have set for Megahertz; I am delighted that he is on our senior management team.”
