Swiss TV network TSR (T_l_vision Suisse Romande) has chosen BFE as its SI and SGT's VEDA platform for its new playout automation system, writes Fergal Ringrose.
The project called CDD2010 will be set up by BFE with the objective to overhaul TSR_s broadcast centre (Centre De Diffusion) in Geneva. The playout automation system will be installed for the two Premium channels, TSR1 and TSR2, and as of 2011 for thematic IP channels. The final system is expected to be on air during the second half of 2010. The requirements for the new playout system were as follows: completely digitised system, enabling an interaction with the existing media management system GICO; ensure a strong interaction with the STRADA traffic system developed in-house by TSR; support HD playout formats and multichannel sound; and enable content sharing and availability.
"The modernisation of our broadcast centre represents a strategic challenge that requires robust tools to accompany TSR in its future development," said Blaise Guignard, project manager at TSR. "After an in-depth market study, we have selected the VEDA solution from SGT, and BFE as our systems integration partner. The innovative features, the quality of the graphical interface, and the adaptability of the system made the difference compared to other vendors."
The new TSR environment will include the Nexio playout server from Harris, Imagestore IS750 master control from Miranda, Nexus audio routing from Stagetec and the C8000 series audio processing components from J_nger. VEDA automation allows working audio live from the source to respond to TSR_s requirements in terms of high quality sound in 5.1 Discrete, Dolby E and stereo PCM. For dynamic branding, SGT_s solution will integrate with Iconstation from Harris.
