Netflix has opened its first European production hub in Madrid.
Last year the streaming company signed a multi-year contract with Spanish broadcaster and producer Grupo Secuoya to hire space in the 22,000 square-metre ‘Ciudad de la Tele’ production centre, which will be a central facility for Netflix’s slate of Spanish-language original content.
CEO Reed Hastings said at the inauguration: “Our aim is to be part of the Spanish creative ecosystem. We are investing for the long term, we are here to stay and to participate.
“This is our first European production hub and we’re excited about the great stories that will be produced here in Spain, and watched by the world.”
