The Neptune playout automation system from UK-based automation specialist Pebble Beach Systems has been installed in Croatia’s first HD production facility, based in Zagreb.
The system was supplied to satellite services and TV production company Croatel, which is providing a full turnkey broadcast service for Arena Sport on both T-HT (Croatian Telecom) IPTV and DTH platforms.
Tonko Barac, managing director of Croatel, commented: “Arena Sport delivers four specialist channels, each of which is broadcast in HD and also downconverted to SD. The channels, which launched on January 1st this year, cover a diverse mix of sports including the UEFA Champions League, Spanish Primera football league, Italian Serie A football, NFL, NHL, CEV volleyball and the EHF handball championship. We selected the Neptune automation system from Pebble Beach Systems having evaluated several alternatives and following a visit to the company’s headquarters in Surrey. Neptune’s ability to control our Grass Valley K2 servers and ingest system made it simple and straightforward to integrate into our installation, and the pre and post sales support which the company has offered has been excellent.”
Croatel’s Neptune automation system controls all four of Arena Sport’s playout channels with full Air Protect, and main and backup ports for each channel. In addition to controlling three Grass Valley K2 servers, Neptune also interfaces to Miranda logo inserters and controls an Nvision router. The system was supplied with Anchor Media Management, which auto-restores media from the Storage Area Network (SAN) to the playout servers.
Having recently signed a contract with Croatian Olympic Committee TV, Croatel is also installing a second Pebble Beach Systems automation system at a separate site in Zagreb this March. The Neptune Lite will be integrated with the Avid playout server platform and an ingest system from MOG Solutions, providing a national free to air TV channel through DVB-T, IPTV and DTH platforms.
