Motion Impossible, which specialises in robotic camera dollies and stabilisation solutions, is partnering with SMPTE on a new open protocols initiative.
The aim of the project, which is in its early stages, is to bring together companies building motors and encoders for robotic camera systems and co-develop a shared framework that allows the technologies to work together more easily.
Instead of competing proprietary silos, the goal is true interoperability to ensure a future where dollies, cranes, arms, remote heads and tracking systems can all sing “from the same hymn sheet,” said the company.
Motion Impossible’s CTO Mat Hubbard is leading the project, with the company inviting robotics leaders in film, TV and broadcast technology to collaborate on shaping what comes next; sharing perspectives, setting priorities and defining the framework together.
“Conversations are already underway with other companies that share this vision,” said Motion Impossible.
