More ACHT eQ for HD demand

Frankfurt post house ACHT has invested in a second Quantel eQ effects and grading system. ACHT has also upgraded its existing eQ with the new Eiger Media Engine, QColor in-context grading package and full 4:4:4 HD-RGB operation.

ACHT’s expansion is the direct result of increasing demand for its ‘HD without compromise’ approach to post production, and also for the production of commercials and trailers for the cinema screen – for which the HD-RGB-equipped eQ is well suited. ACHT’s business is built upon music videos, broadcast design and commercials; it has recently completed high profile projects for Mercedes-Benz, Diet Coke and broadcaster ZDF.

“The demand from our customers for HD productions in growing rapidly, especially for commercials,” explained Ralf Drechsler, ACHT managing director and lead creative. “Two systems have become a necessity to enable us to retain the flexibility to be able to make changes very quickly for our customers and also to allow us to take on short notice projects for them.”

Drechsler made the decision to purchase the second eQ after seeing the new Eiger hardware and software at IBC in 2005. eQ’s ability to handle video and computer files and networking alongside each other was also an important driver. “This means that for customer approval we can export a QuickTime or MPEG file quickly and easily without disturbing the workflow.”
