Longcross Studios granted permission to remain permanently

Buildings at the site used by Netflix have been removed from the green belt and will become a permanent facility

Longcross Studios. home to the BBC’s Call the Midwife, has received full planning permission.

An application to allow the complex in Chertsey, Surrey, to become a permanent fixture was unanimously approved at a local authority meeting on June 25th. Opened in 2020, permission was initially granted on a temporary basis because of the site’s location within the green belt.

Previously occupied by the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), buildings at the Longcross North site have also been in use as a studio by Netflix.

Speaking at the meeting, Victoria Gibson, development manager at Runnymede Borough Council, said, “The building supports the existing film studio use, and therefore there is no reason why the building cannot remain on a permanent basis.”

As part of its 2030 Local Plan, the council voted to remove the site from its green belt status, hoping it will eventually become an office hub.
