The Swiss-based Kudelski Group has announced an agreement to purchase all the assets of the SCM Microsystems-owned DTVS ( Digital Television Solutions) for US$11m, with both parties anticipating closure of the deal in the next month and a half.
DTVS has 40 employees and is one of the pioneers in conditional access module technology, and has a particularly strong presence in the European and Asian markets. The product portfolio includes conditional access modules (DVB-CI, OpenCable, CableCards), digital TV consumer electronics accessories and custom ASICs.
The plan is for Kudelski to form a new entity that will deliver secure pay TV modules compatible with consumer electronic products for the digital TV industry.
“With the digital TV market becoming a mass market, CA modules will become a key enabler for standard and open digital receiving terminals to support conditional access systems,” said Andre Kudelski, chairman and CEO.
