A 60-channel high-end 192 kHz USB and Firewire audio interface and an eight-channel digitally controlled Mic preamp with multi-format I/O made their presence known at IBC last month.
The Fireface 802 offers 60 channels of audio, high-end microphone preamps, reference class converters, a complete effects section and operation at up to 192 kHz. It combines 60-channel super low latency conversion with low latency operation via USB or FireWire, and features active jitter suppression and professional reference level support.
Equipped with the latest A/D and D/A converter chips, all I/Os operate at up to 192 kHz and reach 118 dBA dynamic range on playback – including both headphone outputs.
The unit also features four completely analogue microphone preamps with manual gain setting. The four inputs on the front use balanced XLR/TRS combo sockets and operate alternatively as Hi-Z inputs for direct recording of guitars or other instruments.
In addition to FireWire 400, the Fireface 802 comes with RME’s Hammerfall-based USB 2.0 core. The Fireface 802 can also be fully controlled from an iPad with RME’s TotalMix FX for iPad app.
RME’s OctaMic XTC is a microphone, line and instrument preamp, high-end A/D converter, digital patchbay, format converter and monitoring device. With extremely low latencies, RME claims the preamp excels in gain range, EIN and signal to noise ratios.
It features eight microphone and line inputs, four switchable to Hi-Z mode. All analogue and digital inputs, including up to 64 MADI, 8 ADAT and 8 AES/EBU audio channels, can be freely patched to any output.
The full colour TFT display offers quickly accessible setup options and the unit offers full remote control support
An RME audio interface running TotalMix FX can remote control the OctaMic XTC directly within the input channel strips of TotalMix.
Achievement in Sound is just one of the honours to be presented at the upcoming TVBAwards. The event, held by TVBEurope and TV Technology Europe, takes place at the London Hilton Wembley on 23 October and will celebrate talent across the broadcast industry, with awards in Delivery, Workflow and Capture, as well as four Special Awards.
There are four nominees for the Achievement in Sound award, part of the Workflow category: Bang Post Production has been nominated for its work on the hit TV series Sherlock; Gearhouse Production for The X Factor; dock10 has been nominated for Happy Valley and its work on Later…with Jools Holland means NUGEN Audio is also contending for the award.
