Harris launches converged platform

At Casbat this February, Harris launced its ground-breaking new product Selenio, which is a hybrid platform combining baseband video and audio with IP networking and compression in a single cabinet.

Harris took the unusual step of launching a ground-breaking new product at Cabsat, the February exhibition aimed primarily at the Middle East and North Africa. Selenio is a hybrid platform, combining baseband video and audio with IP networking and compression in a single cabinet.Although it is modular in concept, executives were keen to underline that it is not just an infrastructure device. It is designed to provide the essential link, in a space-saving form factor, for media companies migrating towards file-based solutions. So the 3U cabinet supports busses for video (up to 3Gb/s HD), audio (analogue, discrete digital and embedded digital) and IP (dual redundant gigabit ethernet for IP content, plus dual redundant 100 Base T for control).Software modules running on the platform provide the appropriate conversion, encoding or transcoding, and multiplexing and de-multiplexing. Video audio functionality is also available, including audio up and down-mixing and loudness control, and video proc amp and graphics insertion.55 units have already been ordered by Omantel, to build a new contribution and distribution network across Oman.
