With the introduction of its ProMedia Capture video ingest engine, Harmonic is claiming to simplify and streamline realtime ingest of video for file-based production and multi-screen workflows. It captures files at high resolution direct into the preferred file formats for each facility’s applications.
Harmonic introduced its ProMedia suite of software applications earlier this year, aimed specifically at workflows producing content for broadcast, online, tablets, mobile phones and other IP connected devices. It draws on Harmonic’s extensive experience in advanced video processing, including its Carbon transcoding algorithms. It means that ProMedia Capture can record in the required formats at the point of ingest, rather than needing a separate transcoding process.
The device uses a web-based user interface to control two independent ingest channels, each with an associated VTR if required. It also provides a convenient way of supporting metadata, and can be extended to support CableLabs ADI package creation for automatic export to video on demand systems.
ProMedia Capture uses standalone hardware which includes 1.3TB of onboard storage. For larger and networked applications it can be integrated with Omneon MediaGrid shared storage. Automated workflows can be built and fast turnaround editing supported using the Harmonic Workflow System (HWS).
