As part of its forthcoming Bundesliga broadcast rights tender process, the German Football League has revealed plans to produce 176 matches per season in 4K UHD.
The DFL said as well as producing matches in 4K UHD, it also intends for Sportcast, its in-house production company, to use 26 cameras at each match, including aerial camera systems, drones and corner flag cameras.
Other new aspects of the rights packages include additional clips for digital and mobile usage within the live pay-television rights packages, comprising in-match video and audio clips, along with on-demand clips that can be shown after the final whistle.
The DFL said: “In line with the changing media usage, the possibility of creating digital offerings is being comprehensively expanded and tailored to different needs. Video and audio ‘In-match clips’ can be distributed by purchasers of pay live packages while the game is still in progress. For the first time, pay highlight clips can be used directly after the final whistle, and highlight programmes can be made available for the first time afterwards on demand, for example as a media library offering.”
Along with regular-season matches from both the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, from 2020-21 to 2024-25, rights deals also include the DFL Supercup and relegation play-offs. The new tender will feature seven live packages and seven highlights and clips packages.
