Front Porch Digital's DIVAnews content storage management (CSM) system, designed specifically for news operations, will début at NAB2007. Fully interoperable with all leading news production systems, the company says DIVAnews enables easy and transparent SD and HD content storage expansion and archiving, writes Andy Stout.
"With DIVAnews, news operations at last can stop accumulating unwieldy videotapes in a library and instead build an efficient, unified content storage system," said Michael Knaisch, president and CEO of Front Porch Digital. "Ever mindful of our customers' bottom line, we have structured DIVAnews to enable seamless movement of content across the diverse systems common to news operations. That means only this single investment in storage equipment is needed. Additionally, using DIVAnews, broadcasters can expect not only to save money, but also to realise the competitive benefits of reduced time-to-air and an improvement in overall on-air look."
DIVAnews features include transparent access from the news system to archived content, unlimited storage expansion using a combination of inexpensive IT-based spinning disk and archive storage technologies, in-path transcoding for seamless connectivity to editing and on-air platforms, and automatic migration of content from nearline storage to archives. DIVAnews has been designed to interface the most popular data tape libraries from ADIC, Sony, Spectra Logic, and Sun.
DIVAnews software includes archive manager, two data mover (Actor) licenses, interfaces either to Avid Interplay or GVG Aurora, and an interface to a single data tape library. Options include additional Actor licenses, DIVAdirector desktop proxy search, high-resolution transcoding, shared nearline disk storage, storage policy manager, and DIVAprotect - a powerful system diagnostic tool.
