Italian filmmaker and art director Sergio Cannella has earned first prize at the 11th International Energy Film Festival for Carpa Diem, an advertising spot he shot for Amap using the Panasonic AG-DVX100AE DV camera-recorder. A critical factor for Cannella was that the DVX100 allowed him to shoot in 25P at a low cost, writes Fergal Ringrose.
“I chose the Panasonic DVX100 for this project because it produces very warm colours that suited the environmental focus of this piece and the way I wanted the story told,” said Cannella. “When we created this spot, the Panasonic DVX100 was one of the few cameras that allowed us to shoot in 25P at a low cost, and its progressive scan option really allowed some great shooting.”
Featuring CineSwitch™ technology, the DVX100 is claimed to be unique in its ability to switch frame rates from 24p to 30p and 60i. To enhance the film-like look, the camera uses a true progressive scan imager, thereby enabling filmmakers to use digital video as a medium for expressing their cinematic vision. Cannella combined the AG-DVX100AE with a Mini35Kit image converter to achieve the best film quality.
