Facebook and RED Digital Cinema have joined forces to develop a new virtual reality camera.
The bespoke 6DoF (six-degree-of-freedom) camera has been combined with a workflow that the companies say will help content creators produce VR-ready content.
There are no details yet on price or when the camera will be available.
“We’ve been on a quest to build immersive capture technology for years,” Facebook director of engineering Brian Cabral told Variety.
Cabral said RED was an ideal partner for Facebook because of its ability to capture extended dynamic ranges. “The pixel quality matters a lot,” he said.
