EVS and Gearhouse partner to pioneer remote 4K production

IT-based DYVI switcher to feature in UHD remote IP infrastructure demonstration at IBC2015

EVS’ DYVI switcher will cut together 4K camera signals delivered via an IP infrastructure as part of Gearhouse Broadcast’s live remote production demonstration on its booth at IBC2015.

The demonstration will feature the transport of UHD footage from a Hitachi SK-UHD4000 4K camera in position on the Hitachi Kokusai Electric Europe booth. Feeds from this and a HD unit will be sent via fibre to the Gearhouse booth where they’ll be cut together using the DYVI production switcher which will also carry audio and comms signals.

DYVI’s integration in Gearhouse’s remote production workflow solution was first introduced to attendees of a demonstration day at its headquarters earlier this year. Here it was used in a HD set up while the solution presented at IBC will now support 4K feeds. This required no additional upgrade to the DYVI switcher as it’s designed to be utilised for both HD and UHD signals.

“For a while we’ve been developing real-world 4K workflows for our customers at the same time as planning future-proof IP remote production infrastructures. This solution bridges the gap between the two technologies and we’re incredibly excited to present it at IBC this year,” said Kevin Fitzgerald, head of systems and product sales at Gearhouse Broadcast. “DYVI is an integral part of this workflow and its ability to easily scale from the previous HD set up to 4K has been hugely beneficial as we¹ve been implementing the solution.”

EVS’ DYVI allows remote sharing of production resources and can transfer uncompressed video and auxiliary data from any remote location. This benefits broadcasters by reducing their operational costs and increasing the flexibility of production and allowing more space for creativity.
