Estonian campus to be ‘first modern film complex in the Baltics’

Aiming to attract international film production, the €16 million complex is scheduled to open next year

The Ida-Viru Investment Agency Foundation and Mapri Ehitus are collaborating on a new film complex in the Estonia.

According to local media reports, construction on the €16 million complex is due to begin this month, with support from the Estonian government’s Just Transition Fund (JDF).

The campus will be built in a forest location close to the town of Jõhvi and will house digital and multimedia incubators.

Construction company Mapri Ehitus plans to complete the project by August next year, although the schedule has already been put back due to difficulties with the JTF process, which required external analyses of the proposal.

In a statement, Teet Kuusmik, a member of the Ida-Viru Investment Agency Foundation board, said the campus marked the next stage in developing the film industry in the region, and added, “Our main goal is to bring international film production here, supported by local companies offering a variety of services – such as post-production, sound, editing, animation, and set design. We want to reach full-scale service provision within five years, so that the entire production process – from filming to the finished film – can take place right here in Jõhvi.”
