Dimetis manages file transfer for ARD

ARD's Potsdam playout centre has implemented specialist software from Dimetis to simplify its file-based processes.

ARD’s Potsdam playout centre has implemented specialist software from Dimetis to simplify its file-based processes, writes David Fox.

The ARD playout centre, which is affiliated to Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg, required software to transmit video files from the in-house video SAN system to various users, both internally and externally. If necessary, the files can also be transcoded and wrapped into other media container formats during transmission.

The software is based on the BOSS File Transfer Manager and uses an intuitive GUI that aids operation for lengthy periods without any administrative effort.

The software can run on both Windows and Linux computers, and other features include: automated metadata conversion; a web browser-based GUI; a status overview of pending and finished jobs; and the potential to easily adapt to new SAN or VFT systems.

In future, the universal File Transfer Manager will be further controllable by a comprehensive programme and playout planning system to realize a continuous file-based workflow.

Dimetis provides standards-based Operational Support Systems that manage the distribution side of most public television broadcasters in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Its contribution suite dynamically moves live content as well as large files from anywhere to anywhere combining different technologies.

“We have the claim to orient our work on tomorrow’s requirements. The classical transfer of video content will be replaced by advanced information technologies for which our solutions built a solid basis. Dimetis software meets highest standards being innovatively designed, flexibly applicable and intuitive to use,” said Dimetis CTO/COO, Dr Shahin Arefzadeh.
