The Digital TV Group has announced the latest release its D Book code of practice, which outlines the requirements for interoperability in the UK digital terrestrial TV market. Given the rate of development in digital television, the DTG has decided that in future an annual release of the D-Book will occur every July, writes Adrian Pennington.
D Book 5.0 incorporates all the updates since the last publication including the signalling for Freeview Playback, the digital TV recorder standard recently launched, and the latest version of the MHEG 1.06 UK profile.
As the technology develops at an ever-increasing rate, the D-Book will continue to develop to maintain an interoperable digital terrestrial TV platform. New features such as high definition, enhanced return channel and possible IPTV and hybrid services are all being studied in the DTG working groups and will be included in the subsequent D Book revisions when services are announced.
