Cinemage builds 4K post facility with DaVinci Resolve

Paris-based production company Cinemage, part of Groupe Image, is using Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve 9 for Linux to provide colour correction and 3D grading to its feature film clients in its new 4K post production facility in Europe.

Paris-based production company Cinemage, part of Groupe Image, is using Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve 9 for Linux to provide colour correction and 3D grading to its feature film clients in its new 4K post production facility in Europe. Michel Cazaubiel, Groupe Image CEO, decided to take the first step into 4K feature film work by building a facility with guidance from installation specialists Magic Hour. “We turned to Blackmagic Design reseller Magic Hour to assist us with the technical setup and to build our most impressive DaVinci Resolve system yet,” said Cazaubiel. As part of the new installation there is an 8 GPU Linux-based DaVinci Resolve 9 suite used for realtime colour grading of 2K and 4K workflows. The facility also features a Mac running Resolve for processing dailies. The systems are connected to two 250 terabyte SANs for storage and uses 4K projectors for uncompressed viewing of footage and grades, as well as SSL audio mixing for DTS and Dolby Digital surround sound systems. Cinemage’s Technical Director, Dominque Buovac, said: “Using DaVinci Resolve for our 4K post facility was key as it’s the only software on the market that can offer the highest performing 4K colour grading for AATON Delta Penelope, ARRI Alexa and RED EPIC files, which we frequently work with. Also as a Resolve user of two years, I trust the brand and knew that it would be the perfect fit for Cinemage. The decision was simple. “With the recent user interface overhaul in Resolve 9, it’s even easier to navigate and further streamlines my project import, export and selection workflow.”www.blackmagic-design.com
