Cinelab boost with addition of 15 Sony BURANO cameras

The investment reinforces the Dutch production cooperative's commitment to remain at the forefront of technological development

Cinelab has invested in 15 Sony BURANO cameras.

The Netherlands-based network of camera and sound professionals announced the acquisition as part of its aims to ensure it stays at the forefront of industry technology. Providing a bridge between its VENICE2 and FX9 camera solutions, Sony’s BURANO combines cinematic performance with compact usability to meet the needs of both narrative fillmmaking and dynamic documentary shooting.

BURANO features include an 8.6K full-frame sensor, internal X-OCN LT recording, built-in ND filters and autofocus. The recently released version 2.0 firmware added workflow and monitoring upgrades.

Rogier den Boer, cinematographer at Cinelab, said, “This camera once again gives us that latitude and freedom we so need as creators. We cover a wide range of formats—from fast-paced reality shows to carefully lit documentaries—and BURANO’s flexibility lets us bring the right tool to every creative challenge.”

The investment was made in collaboration with Dutch equipment provider Vocas, which ensured the fleet was ready within a short time frame, enabling the integration of the system across Cinelab. The solutions have already been used across a number of high-profile Dutch productions.

“Our team was already a heavy user of FX9, so the BURANO felt like a natural next step. The BURANO is fast, precise, and elegant. It delivers in every way that matters: on set, in post, and on screen,” added den Boer.
