Software Generation (SGL), a provider of content archive and storage management software for media and entertainment, has announced that Chello Central Europe (CCE), a television channel and content provider owned by Chellomedia, has installed SGL FlashNet to extend the archive functionality of its Avid Interplay Production Asset Management system. CCE selected SGL FlashNet to provide midterm storage for playout ingest material while dubbing, rating and QC processes are completed and also to archive unbranded and versioned promos. The new workflow within the Budapest-based facility sees ingested material (IMX50 and DNxHD120) backed up directly to LT05 data tape without caching to disk. Prior to this CCE used Digibeta and HDCam videotape copies for incoming programmes; a time consuming process that required operators to ingest and archive material three times. This included: creating low-res version for dubbing and QC, assembling dubbing and QC’d video, which was then sent to the K2 servers and creating promos. Imre Kiss, broadcast system engineer, CCE explains, “when the dubbing and QC information arrives, the ingest team restores the material, merges it with local audio and then sends it to the Anystream transcoding system and then on to the Grass Valley K2 playout server. The promos are compiled from material restored from the FlashNet archive. The unbranded and the finished promos are then sent back to the archive and to the Anytream and K2 playout servers.” Howard Twine, SGL’s product manager says, “this installation at CCE significantly reduces operational time and costs by providing a seamless and flexible workflow. The SGL archive for Avid Interplay PAM offers a huge number of benefits over other systems, primarily due to the unique level of co-development between Avid and SGL.” www.sglbroadcast.com
