BT is standardising on Elemental software to unify its traditional and multiscreen headend.

The video solutions provider will serve across BT TV Everywhere, the BT Sport app and BT Ultra HD services.

“Proven, scalable SDV solutions from Elemental enable BT to give subscribers the ultimate viewing experience while giving us the flexibility to expand our services in a rapidly-changing marketplace,” said Greg McCall, managing director of TV technology and content for BT.

“Through our partnership with Elemental, we are increasing operational efficiency, assuring the highest quality 4K services for our viewers, and providing customers a unified experience across multiple delivery platforms.”

Utilising Elemental’s HEVC and 4k content processing and delivery solutions, BT launched BT Sport Ultra HD in July last year – the first live sports 4K channel in the UK and Europe.

Elemental powers a unified headend for subscription linear channels delivered to IPTV set-top boxes as well as multiscreen devices, which enables BT to scale from 90 to 250 channels and provide subscribers live, on-demand and time-shift services.

For the BT Sport App, Elemental Delta enables start-over viewing for UEFA Champions League games through its live-to-VOD output filter, allowing viewers to return to match high points, such as goals, penalties, and other notable plays on the pitch.

“BT’s culture of innovation aligns with that of Elemental,” said John Nemeth, VP of sales, EMEA, for Elemental.

“We are pleased to help BT offer more features and functionality to its subscribers, whether via primary screens or multiscreen devices.”
