This year’s Broadcast LIVE, which runs from 19 – 21 June at Earls Court 2 London, will feature special pod zones dedicated to both IPTV and Mobile technologies, reflecting the need for broadcasters to become true cross-media entities and keep up with the changing technologies deployed by their audiences.

With mobile phone numbers now outstripping people in the UK, competition for eyeballs on what is being referred to as the ‘fourth screen’ is intense. But not only is the technology changing rapidly, but the business models underpinning them are too, with 2007 being seen as a key year for the maturing of the market as 3G handsets hit critical mass. The popularity of Web 2.0 enabled companies like YouTube on the internet, meanwhile, has derailed the popular belief that video content does not belong on computer monitors. With a surge in illegal downloading as broadband penetration inexorably increases, broadcasters are having to move quickly to ensure they have a say in the IPTV future and don’t get sidelined by P2P networks or simply start-ups with a bright idea and some server space.

The IPTV and Mobile Pod Zones at Broadcast LIVE will feature companies whose technology is situated right at the cutting edge of these new platforms. Companies who will so far feature in the zones include Vividas and C3 with more to be announced shortly.
