BR operates new Rohde & Schwarz headend

Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), Bavaria’s public broadcasting service, has gone on air with the new R&S AVHE100 headend from Rohde & Schwarz.

Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), Bavaria’s public broadcasting service, has gone on air with the new R&S AVHE100 headend from Rohde & Schwarz. BR is the first to use this headend for its DVB-T2 test operations. BR broadcasts one programme in HD and several programmes in SD in Munich and the surrounding area. Experts from Rohde & Schwarz, BR and RBT (a technical consortium of the German public broadcasters) have already integrated the system into their existing infrastructures. The R&S AVS100 IT server in combination with proprietary software modules now makes it possible to integrate several previously separate functional units such as encoders, multiplexers or T2 gateways into a single, compact, 1 HU enclosure. Bayerischer Rundfunk is also using the R&S AVG100 audio/video gateway, which converts broadcast signals such as HD-SDI, SD-SDI and ASI into IP transport streams. Error control is improved due to the use of forward error correction in line with Pro-MPEG CoP#3/SMPTE 20/22.www2.rohde-schwarz.com
