Audio specialist eyes European market

US-based audio networking specialist Wheatstone is using this year’s IBC as a major launch pad for the company’s further expansion into the European market, initially targeting the radio broadcast sector and later moving into TV. At present, less than 20% of the company’s sales are generated in Europe, said Wheatstone’s director of sales Jay Tyler. He estimates that this could increase to 40% within the next three to five years. The company’s key market is the US, which accounts for around 50/60% of sales. Wheatstone’s core product is WheatNet-IP, which is an Ethernet-based intelligent network solution that connects the audio processing software and equipment that is required by today’s radio broadcasters. “WheatNet is the glue that holds it all together,” added Steve Dove, who has the original job title of minister of algorithms. The company has decided to step up its European presence now because of the greater opportunities that the IP technology provides. This common platform “allows us to appeal to all countries”, noted Tyler. Meanwhile Wheatstone also continues to focus on growth in the US radio and TV broadcast market: Dove noted that the consolidation trend among US radio stations, for example, has provided additional growth opportunities as previously separate stations are brought under one roof. – Anne Morris14.119
