ATG Broadcast has commenced work on a project to relocate the BBC’s central London production training studio from Marylebone to White City.
One of three establishments operated for BBC trainees and independent students, 35 Marylebone High Street operates in conjunction with the Wood Norton Training Centre near Evesham and BBC Elstree in Borehamwood. The relocation will incorporate the facility into the six-storey Wood Lane building in proximity to BBC Television Centre and Media Village.
“We have from July 20 to August 28 to complete the project prior to commencement of the 2009/10 academic year in September,” explains Dave Whitaker, projects manager at ATG Broadcast. “Much of the installation will be pre-assembled at our Letchworth headquarters, including an 11 bay production desk and a three metre-wide sound desk, both from Custom Consoles’ Module-R range of studio furniture.
The facility includes a Media Gallery which is being equipped with a Media Wall accommodating multiple 42-inch JVC 16:9 preview and programme monitors, with under-monitor displays plus an array of 20-inch Marshall widescreen monitors. Additional monitor screens will mount directly to the desks on adjustable Ergotron arms, four on the production desk and three on the sound desk.
The project also includes replacement of an existing For-A vision mixer with a larger HVS-3800HS, plus a For-A MV1600 multiviewer, Autocue teleprompter, ATG Broadcast Krone frame and wallboxes, AJA and Leitch interfaces, audio induction loop and a sound-control-monitor trolley.”
