TVBEurope 2020 to deliver masterclass in UHD and IP workflows

PwC Netherlands, BBC, and Imagine Communications add to speaker line up, as masterclass sessions take shape

With TVBEurope 2020 only two weeks away, the conference organisers are deep in the throes of finalising preparations for what promises to be a unique insight into the worlds of UHD and IP, and their associated impacts on the business strategies of today’s broadcasters and media entities.

And while the main agenda will provide the primary discussions around the unifying theme of the day, the masterclass sessions will provide deep dives into specific areas of challenge and opportunity in production workflow and UHD delivery.

The 11.15am masterclass, presented by DPP member and senior technical manager at ITV Studios, Rowan de Pomerai, will address file-based delivery by assessing how technology affects production workflows, and specifically how the UK broadcast sector has achieved the move over from tape to file.

Completing the masterclass sessions will be Phil Tudor, principal technologist at BBC R&D, who will present on IP workflows for UHD (12.15pm); Dr Hans Hoffmann of the EBU, presenting on improving the viewer experience through better pixels (13.45pm); and Mark Grinyer, head of business development, 3D, 4K and sports at Sony Europe, who will give the 14.15pm masterclass on UHD acquisition.

All masterclass sessions, including the SNL Kagan breakfast briefing at 9.00am, will take place in the Run Run Shaw theatre, and are available to all 2020 delegates.

In addition, the main agenda has welcomed three new speakers to its line up. Ennel van Eeden, director and media specialist at PwC Netherlands, joins the consumer trends panel at 11.45am; Dr Glodina Connan-Lostanlen, VP strategic solutions, playout and networking at Imagine Communications, who joins the risks and rewards of IP panel at 14.15pm; and Simon Tuff, principal technologist at the BBC, who sits on the 12.15pm panel looking into the creative tools and infrastructure for UHD production.
