Black Box: powering smarter control rooms with scalable IP-based solutions

At IBC2025, Black Box will demonstrate the continued evolution of its acclaimed Emerald IP-Based Control Solution, with powerful new features designed to streamline control room operations, support virtual and hybrid workflows, and simplify system integration.

Emerald IP-Based Control Solution

The Black Box Emerald IP KVM solution serves as an infinitely scalable universal access system, giving users the flexibility to connect to both physical and virtual machines, along with anywhere, anytime IP access over an existing IP network, WAN, or even the internet. Advanced security and industry-leading minimal bandwidth consumption enable new ways of configuring control room infrastructure for maximum expandability, incorporating local and remote users with simplified workflows, and mastering distributed control rooms. Interoperability between 4K and HD video and one-touch control room setups combine with a high degree of automation through Emerald’s APIs to give users valuable flexibility and ease of use.

Scalable Visualisation With Emerald DESKVUE and Video Wall Integration

The advanced Emerald DESKVUE receiver from Black Box now supports direct connection of up to four multiview displays, which may be desktop-mounted, on a stand, or wall-mounted. Operators can also extend their workspace to larger video walls by deploying additional DESKVUE units. Controlled from the same DESKVUE user console, each unit powers four LCD displays. The latest DESKVUE enhancements also enable direct control of LED-based video walls, and visitors to the company’s stand will be able to compare LCD and LED display performance side by side.

Stand visitors also will see the debut of a new DESKVUE capability: support for display arrays with up to 28 monitors, complete with display edge compensation to ensure a clean, continuous image across the wall.

Enhanced System Integration and Web Access

The Black Box Emerald system now makes it even easier to integrate virtual machines with dual-head (two-channel) video output. Operators can control and monitor both video channels using any Emerald® PE or DESKVUE-powered console. Emerald DESKVUE also introduces new functionality that allows users to open web pages directly from the Emerald IP connection rather than connect to a separate computer source. This innovation streamlines access to dashboards, monitoring tools, and control interfaces directly from the KVM console.

Emerald Remote App — Now for macOS

At IBC2025, Black Box is introducing the industry’s first software-based KVM receiver for macOS. Part of the Emerald Remote App suite, this new release gives users full-featured access to multiple physical or virtual systems without the need for external hardware. Designed with remote broadcast professionals in mind, the Emerald Remote App ensures instant, secure connectivity from anywhere in the world, with support for multiple displays, and centralised authentication via Boxilla. Whether on Windows or macOS, users can now turn any laptop into a high-performance KVM receiver for the Emerald IP network.
