Tune up for brighter LEDs

The L10 will ship in April, and its housing combines aluminium with high-strength, fiberglass-reinforced thermoplastics to withstand the stresses of production, from motion picture sets to TV studios.

Arri has unveiled its brightest ever LED Fresnel light, the new L10, which β€œis very close to a 2kW level of brightness,” claimed Mike Wagner, product manager, lighting, although the L10 only draws 400W of power.

The lights are completely tuneable, with the L10-C going from 2800K to 10,000K – it also has full control over plus or minus green correction, and can also produce vivid colours, such as deep blues or reds thanks to full hue and saturation control (on the L10-C).

There is also a daylight-tuneable version, the L10-DT, from 5000K to 6500K, and an L10-TT (Tungsten Tuneable – 2600K to 3600K), which are about ten per cent brighter than the L10-C. However, as the lights use the new Light Engine 2 (as also seen in the recently upgraded mid-range L7), there is less of a difference than there used to be, although the L10-C is about twice as bright as the L7-C.
