What impact have the current global uncertainties had on the company’s R&D and product development in recent months?
Ross has been accelerating our R&D into what we might call a record year for re-investment. I guess you might say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going!
What do you foresee as the biggest challenges in R&D and product development/deployment in the coming years?
There are numerous directions in which the industry is moving simultaneously. It’s not like years ago when the only question was whether the video format was 525 or 625. Now, we’re supporting 4K, HDR, 2110, NDI, HyperConverged workflows, hybrid workflows, and cloud workflows, just to name a few. There’s also so much going on with our camera motion group with our recent acquisition of EagleEye from SEC.Swiss to add to our SpiderCam offerings, as well as huge success of our Artimo studio robotics. And of course, we are incorporating AI into our products, such as with Vision[ai]ry our Robotics auto framing system, player tracking in Piero and Voice Control of our products through Ross Voice Control.
Where do you see the most opportune areas for innovation in your area of the market, and what tech/solutions will drive that development?
There’s opportunity everywhere. Our HyperConverged product line just hugely expanded with the introduction of Carbonite HyperMax, as well as display port support, NDI support, and Dante. We’re spending more on that platform today than ever before. We see an opportunity in cloud solutions as well—it’s still early days for these solutions there’s so much that can be done to make them more powerful and customer-friendly. In the end, everything we do is about finding new ways to make our customers more efficient while creating an ever greater impact with their viewers.
What are you working on currently that excites you as a product team, and what can we expect to see at IBC2025?
You’re going to see exciting progress across the board in all of our product lines. Stay tuned, there might even be a few unexpected surprises!
