France Télévisions migrates playout to single master suite

As part of the move, the broadcaster wanted to adopt TSoIP and ST 2110 while maintaining SDI workflows

French public broadcaster France Télévisions has moved playout of five of its channels from the same number of dedicated control rooms to a single master suite.

As part of the move, the broadcaster wanted to adopt TSoIP and ST 2110 while maintaining SDI workflows. Following a discussion with system integration partner Euplink, France Télévisions opted to use Pixel Power’s Prismon multiviewer and media monitoring platform.

Prismon’s configuration tools have been central to the success of the deployment, enabling multiple mosaics to be created and re-configured instantly, said Pixel Power.

The technology also supports audio and ancillary data, allowing the operator to select channels to hear, as well as carry out test and measurement on all channels. These tools have enabled France-tv to develop the concept of the ‘penalty screen’, a central display that highlights any issues requiring immediate attention.

The Prismon quality tests and alerts are fed into France-tv’s EVS Cerebrum broadcast management system for subsequent audit tracking. The technology can be easily integrated with third-party systems via a RESTful API, or through a standard SNMP connection, added Pixel Power.

“The Prismon platform has made a significant difference to our operational efficiency,” said Lou Agache, project manager at France Télévisions. “We’ve been able to consolidate and simplify our monitoring, and the responsive error detection and intuitive displays help our operators supervise all of our outputs confidently.”
