The European Broadcasting Union’s Technical Committee has officially published its position statement setting out its priorities for future cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure development.
The statement was first drawn up during the EBU Technology & Innovation Summit in early June. At the time, it was shared with the EBU community and its governance committees. It is now being made available to the wider public and external collaborators as a basis for coordinated action, said the EBU.
The statement calls for the creation of cloud and AI systems that are developed under European governance and control, ensuring that they remain “open, sustainable, and aligned with the public interest.”
It emphasises interoperability and resilience as essential qualities, “enabling cloud and AI services to be scaled and adapted for a broad range of public service media needs.”
The text also highlights the importance of supporting AI-driven innovation in media production, distribution, and audience engagement, and stresses the importance of ensuring integration with external platforms while safeguarding editorial independence and data integrity.
