EBU boosts news workflows with Moments Lab partnership

Integrating the Moments Lab platform into EBU editorial team workflows, the partnership aims to accelerate access to key content for member organisations

Moments Lab has announced a collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), aiming to boost live news distribution across public service media organisations.

Under the partnership, the EBU has deployed Moments Lab’s MXT multimodal AI-powered platform. Live streams flow directly into the platform—known internally as NewsDirect—enabling EBU’s editorial team to locate key moments for distribution to journalists worldwide. The solution aims to provide member organisations, including some of Europe’s largest public service media outlets, with real-time access to curated news content.

Launched with coverage of the Munich Security Conference, the platform is now fully operational for EBU’s live news output, encompassing more than 3,000 hours of political events such as Davos, the G7 and NATO summits. Journalists are able to rapidly access key moments, minimising the need for manual searches and accelerating editorial workflows.

Laurent Frat, head of partnerships at EBU, said, “Integrating Moments Lab into our NewsDirect platform has changed how quickly our users can get to the content that matters. Any authorised user can clip major news events as they happen, directly from a browser, and share them faster than ever before. The AI search is brilliant for sifting through long recordings to surface key moments quickly.”

“The scale and responsibility of what EBU delivers for its public broadcaster members is extraordinary,” added Phil Petitpont, CEO and co-founder of Moments Lab. “This is editorial intelligence in action: making sure the right moment gets to the right journalist, fast, and with full confidence in its provenance. We are incredibly proud to be part of EBU’s operation.”
