Channel 4 moves linear playout to Encompass

The playout services will be delivered from Encompass' broadcast facilities in both London and Riga, using its Altitude platform

UK broadcaster Channel 4 has agreed a new multi-year managed linear playout deal with Encompass.

Under the agreement, Encompass will partner with Channel 4 to provide channel origination, content supply chain and disaster recovery services across its portfolio, including Channel 4, E4, More4, Film4, E4 Extra and 4seven.

The playout services will be delivered from Encompass’ broadcast facilities in both London and Riga, using its Altitude platform, said the company.

“Channel 4 conducted a rigorous procurement process, and we’re delighted to have been selected as its managed playout partner,” said Marc Bruce, CEO of Encompass. “This agreement reflects the strength of our technology and our experience supporting leading broadcasters with highly resilient managed services. We look forward to working closely with the Channel 4 team as we prepare for service launch next year.”

Grace Boswood, director of technology and distribution at Channel 4 added: “We’re pleased to be entering into this new agreement with Encompass. Their cloud-native technology and experience supporting modern broadcast environments made them the ideal choice for our future needs, and we look forward to working together.”

The new deal will begin in 2027. Channel 4 previously worked with Red Bee Media for its linear playout.
