XGen Network has released the first draft of Receiver Standards for 5G devices.
The standards follow the European Broadcast handset taskforce receiver profile which was released for review in September, aiming to ensure device compatibility ahead of 5G Broadcast rollout across the continent. With members including EBU and BNE, the working group hopes to establish a common receiver profile, allowing the creation of a sustainable business model for broadcasters and network operators.
Next month, 5G-MAG – 5G Media Action Group, an international non-profit association to foster collaboration across the media and connectivity industries – will hold a vote on the formation of a dedicated 5G Broadcast workgroup. Anticipating the initiative’s approval, XGen said it expected “accelerated advancements” in the technology, “paving the way for significant breakthroughs.”
Building on the foundational standards set by the task force, XGen’s release proposes the adoption of the full Band 108 (470 MHz – 698 MHz), aimed at achieving global compatibility. While Band 107 (612 MHz – 652 MHz)—a subset of Band 108—offers potential for European tests, its deployment is restricted in the U.S. due to limited access to the 600 MHz range, making a broader standard essential, said the company. Adding that a broader universal standard also provides simplification and allows manufacturers the flexibility to adapt frequencies within the band for specific regional needs,
The company expects to see a growth in use cases throughout the coming year.
