TDF, France Télévisions trial UHD on DTT, 5G Broadcast at Roland Garros

TDF has obtained permission from France's broadcast regulator ARCOM to broadcast from the Eiffel Tower and is working with Ateme, Qualcomm and Rohde & Schwarz on the project

French infrastructure operator TDF is working with broadcaster France Télévisions on two broadcasting experiments during this year’s French Open tennis tournament.

The two companies are working to broadcast the tournament in UHD over DTT in Paris, Toulouse and Nantes.

They are also sending 5G Broadcast signals from the Eiffel Tower in Paris to smartphones at Roland Garros.

TDF has obtained from France’s broadcast regulator ARCOM to broadcast from the Eiffel Tower and is working with Ateme, Qualcomm and Rohde & Schwarz on the project.

Karim El Naggar, managing director of audiovisual and networks at TDF said: “DTT is a mode of television broadcasting that is free for the viewer, more ecological and easily accessible for everyone, everywhere in France. It is also a technology of the future around which TDF is constantly innovating.

“Thanks to the tests that we are conducting on mobile DTT, viewers will also be able to watch television on their smartphone, on the move, for free, without Wi-Fi and without using their mobile plan.”
