The tenth edition of the 4K HDR summit is underway in Seville.
Coinciding with the 21st Seville European Film Festival, the summit features speakers from across the global media and entertainment (M&E) industry providing insights and experiences and opinions on the deployment of Ultra High Definition (UHD) across the continent. Representatives from 18 countries are taking part.
Present and future applications of UHD/4K, HDR and 8K technologies will form central themes at the summit. Speakers include France TV’s Jacques Donat-Bouillud and Mickaël Raulet, CTO of Ateme, as well as Stephan Heimbecher, head of production and infrastructure at the ARD Competence Centre and chairman of the European Broadcast Union‘s ‘Intelligent Media Production’ strategic programme, and Tonio di Stefano, director of networks and platforms at RAI and president of the UltraHD Forum Italy.
The summit will consider some of the progress already made. For example, Spain already has a national UHD channel, La1 4K, with more public and private channels expected throughout 2025. France TV, in collaboration with Ateme, launched that country’s first UHD DTT channel, broadcasting the France International Tennis Tournament and Paris 2024 Olympic Games across the nation.
It will also look at ways to overcome some of the challenges faced in rolling out the technology, with efforts to “revitalise the subject” taking place in Germany following a slowdown due to the pandemic and several experimental UHD transmissions taking place in Italy, particularly during sporting and cultural events.
Organised by Medina Media Events, the 4K HDR Summit is taking place between November 11th to 14th, with the first two days at the Nissan Cartuja Auditorium and the last two accessible virtually.
