Ofcom calls for evidence on new technologies

Regulator is seeking views on the emerging technologies that could have a major impact on how people use communications in the future

Ofcom has started a discovery programme around new technologies currently being researched and developed which could affect broadcast networks, including the content they carry and the devices on which they are consumed.

The regulator is seeking views from people in the communications industry, academia and beyond on the emerging technologies that could have a major impact on how people use communications in the future.

It said it is particularly keen to understand technologies that deliver new services; reduce costs and lower barriers for providers entering markets. It also wants to hear evidence about technologies that reduce the environmental impact of communications services and increase their security.

Ofcom has asked for submissions by 3rd September and said it intends to publish a summary of evidence received and the next steps it plans to take.

More details are available on Ofcom’s website.
