Mediaset future-proofs workflows with Video Progetti and Unified Streaming

Italy's largest commercial broadcaster has implemented its first fully cloud-based OTT headend system

Mediaset has announced a collaboration with Video Progetti and Unified Streaming.

Italy’s largest commercial broadcaster, which runs 13 free-to-air channels alongside its on-demand streaming platform, has implemented its first fully cloud-based OTT headend system.

Optimised by Video Progetti, Unified Streaming’s software reseller in Italy, the headend enables encoding, packaging and distribution of video content, providing monitoring throughout the process.

Having secured broadcasting rights for UEFA Champions League games, technical teams from Mediaset and Video Progetti deployed Unified Streaming’s Unified Origin solution, packetising streams in the format required by the end device. Handling DRM (digital rights management) and encryption.

Unified Origin supports a range of DRM protocols and was also set up with full redundancy: double encoder, double Unified Origin, said the company. The solution gives Mediaset the ability to deliver native 1080p/50fps video (1920×1080 pixels/50 frames per second) to a wider variety of end-user devices. Additionally, workflows are future-proofed, meeting SMPTE IP2110 infrastructure compatibility requirements.

Sales director of Video Progetti Francesco Struzzi said, “The collaboration with Unified Streaming on the Mediaset OTT project was optimal. Unified supported the project in a very professional way, and helped with the integration of Unified Origin in a complex workflow with Elemental encoders. We are very happy with the end result and look forward to collaborating with Unified Streaming in new projects.”
