HBO Max will launch in Europe in second half of 2021

Streamer's global boss says he expects HBO Max to be "very active" in Europe by the end of 2021.

HBO Max will launch in Europe during the second half of 2021 according to the streamer’s global boss Andy Forssell.

It will also launch in Latin America during the same period.

“By the end of the year both of those regions will be very active,” Forssell said. He added that the company intends to upgrade its existing direct-to-consumer HBO services in Europe to HBO Max during 2021.

Forssell said the company is aiming to launch HBO Max in 190 countries, “It’s just a matter of how fast we can do that,” he explained.

Warner Bros, which owns HBO Max, has shocked Hollywood with the news it will release all of its 2021 films on the streamer at the same time as they arrive in cinemas. However, this will only happen in the US.

HBO Max launched in the United States earlier this year, and was always expected to debut in Europe sometime during 2021. There still remains a question as to whether it will be launched in the UK due to Sky’s programming deals with HBO and Warner Bros across its European markets.
