Blackbird helps to ‘run DNC’; AIMS IP Oktoberfest; AVoD services launch on LG Channels

TVBEurope rounds up a selection of product and tech news from across the market...

Blackbird helps Live X to run DNC coverage

Cloud video editing platform provider, Blackbird, has announced that it was chosen by Live X for cloud video editing and publishing at the US Democratic National Convention held on 17th – 20th August 2020.

Live X, the New York-based production company provided coverage of last week’s virtual Democratic National Convention and used Blackbird to produce video content from the convention in the cloud and publish to social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. Blackbird was also used to make content rapidly available to media partners for re-purposing to multiple platforms and channels.

“Live X is dedicated to delivering the best possible event experiences for our clients. To make the magic happen we only partner with best-in-class technologies and for true cloud-native video editing, Blackbird is the only show in town,” said Live X co-founder Corey Behnke. “We’re excited to incorporate Blackbird into our tech offering and look forward to Live X and our clients benefitting from the significant productivity efficiencies the platform delivers.”

Blackbird plc’s CEO, Ian McDonough, added: “Our new partnership with Live X is exciting in two ways. Firstly, it is focused on live workflows and that’s very much in the sweet spot of where Blackbird offers the most competitive advantages through speed, agility and quality. Secondly it’s an OEM model where Blackbird is trusted to deliver on some of the world’s most relevant content, like the Democratic National Convention, as part of Live X’s technology stack.”

AIMS IP Oktoberfest 2020 call for papers

AIMS has announced that the call for presentations for its IP Oktoberfest 2020, 29th September to 1st October, is now open. The fully virtual event is set to pore over the significant progress the industry has made towards an “all-IP ecosystem that supports today’s real-world media productions”.

The event will host live presentations demonstrating how the SMPTE ST 2110 suite of standards and the AMWA NMOS technology stack are improving media workflows for large and small deployments. The newly proposed IPMX set of open standards and specifications also will be a featured topic.

“IP Oktoberfest 2020 will give the broadcast and professional AV communities a much-needed opportunity to delve into recent advances in leveraging a common set of IP standards for real-time professional media applications,” said AIMS chairman of the board Michael Cronk. “The disruption of conventional workflows has accelerated innovation and the deployment of IP-based installations. We anticipate a diverse array of presentations showcasing the many ways that IP infrastructure is being used to achieve critical efficiency and agility in supporting flexible production and playout.”

The IP Oktoberfest 2020 call for presentations is open to end users, industry associations, solutions providers, and technology developers who would like to share their knowledge and perspectives on how developments in IP workflows shape the broadcast industry today and in the future.

All submissions should support the AIMS roadmap. Final selections will be presented live during the three-day online event, which will be hosted on an AIMS virtual platform. Speaking proposals should be submitted by 31st August.
